Innovative microgrid powered by 3.45MW CHP system providing total facility electricity, heating requirements and significant cost savings and emissions reductions

Overview

CHP microgrid system results in cost savings and significant carbon footprint reductions

This project utilizes a combined heat and power (CHP) system which acts as the power plant for the facility, providing both electricity and steam according to the requirements of the facility’s sub-systems. The CHP system will act as the facility’s main source of energy, producing its total electricity and steam requirements and will be installed in parallel to the facility’s pre-existing energy infrastructure – which can be used as a redundant backup. This guarantees a continuous supply of electricity and steam, even in the case of main grid outages, eliminating blackouts and increasing the facility’s uptime.

This green energy microgrid deploys cutting-edge technology to utilize cleaner sources of fuel and improve fuel efficiency. The CHP system implements a Honeywell T55 jet-engine converted for civil/industrial use which produces the facility’s electricity requirements. The exhaust from this engine is directed to a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) equipped with an afterburner, producing the facility’s steam requirements. The flow from the HRSG is then directed to an emissions reduction system which reduces the final emissions by 88%. This keeps the NOx emission levels within the single-digit ppm range.

This project will result in significant savings on energy bills, emissions reductions, and increases in uptime; therefore, increasing profits and facility sustainability. G-Wizz also acquired all relevant federal and state subsidies for the client, reducing the projects overall cost and further increasing ROI and profits. The emissions reductions futureproof the client against future national emissions legislation, improve brand image, and help green the world.
