Congress Plaza Hotel

Innovative microgrid powered by a 390kW CHP system will provide a one million square foot hotel with electricity and heating, producing significant savings and emissions reductions

Overview

CHP system implementation will result in savings on energy and carbon footprint reductions

This project involves the design, engineering and installation of a bespoke combined heat and power (CHP) system which will provide electricity and hot water for the one million square foot Congress Plaza Hotel. The project is currently in the engineering stage and is scheduled to be installed in October 2024. The CHP system will act in parallel with the pre-existing energy infrastructure providing an additional, lower cost and lower emission, source of electricity and heat.

The CHP system utilizes six Capstone microturbine engines which produce electricity. The exhaust from these microturbine engines is directed to an integrated hot water heat recovery module. The heat recovery module enables excess heat to be recovered and converted for use heating the hotel. Both the microturbine engines and the heat recovery modules are certified as having ultra-low emissions, with NOx levels of less than 9 parts per million (19mg/m3). Maintenance will be performed one turbine at a time, giving the CHP a near 100% uptime.

By entrusting G-Wizz with this project, Congress Plaza Hotel will reduce their carbon footprint and environmental impact, saving the planet and appealing to climate conscious guests. They will also gain significant savings on their energy costs, increasing profits and business value. Furthermore, the installation of the entirely self-owned, standalone CHP system in parallel with the pre-existing energy infrastructure guarantees a continuous supply of electricity and hot water, eliminating costly blackouts. Finally, G-Wizz ensured that the Congress Plaza Hotel acquired all appropriate federal and state subsidies, reducing the project cost and further increasing the project ROI.
